Tins and Tubes
An ongoing series.
The first stop I make while traveling around the world; the local markets or grocers. Always intrigued by unknown ingredients and being an intrepid foodie, I tend to purchase unusual ingredients and products, and bring them back home. Sometimes they end up on the plate and sometimes in the bin, but I always try them.
On a subconscious level I gravitate towards colorful and graphic packaging, my home is a sea of neutral, but I admire the colors, the unknown languages, the cultural differences, ex: why is there a young boy, circa what looks like the 1950's, on a tube of roe from Sweden? Do young children gravitate towards tubed roe?
These interesting questions, are a driving force in this series, and it sates my curiosity of different food cultures, allows me to experience things from afar, and expands my palate.
In photographing these products. I allow the packaging to inform the creative, in the color, composition and the propping.
